Ewen SpeedUniversity of EssexEwen Speed is Professor of Medical Sociology, in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex. His current research is located in the fields of policy studies and sociology. He is interested in the ways in which changing discourses around the relations between citizens and the state are translated into health and social care policies. He has published on issues of accountability and governance in the UK National Health Service, the participation imperative for democratic citizen involvement in health and social care policy and practice, populism and its implications for health policy, and UK welfare policy. He is also (since 2012) co-founding editor of The Cost of Living, a blog about the politics, economics and sociology of health and healthcare.
