Bahruz Samadov is a doctoral student at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University in Prague, and a member of DESIRE. On 21 August 2024, when he was visiting Baku, Samadov was detained by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service. After almost a year of pre-trial mprisonment, he was sentenced on 23 June 2025 to a prison sentence of 15 years for high treason. The Azerbaijani court motivated this prison sentence through his academic work and his contacts with Armenians. DESIRE is deeply concerned by this miscarriage of justice and supports an immediate presidential pardon. Below you can find a list of relevant publications on this pressing issue.
